2026 BMW iX Debuts With More Range, More Power, And New Tech Starting At $75,150

BMW has announced a comprehensive update to its flagship electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the 2026 iX, featuring significant improvements in range, performance, and technology while introducing a more accessible price point.

Efficiency with Silicon Carbide Technology

Nearly four years since the model’s initial launch, the new update in the iX model is BMW’s innovative implementation of silicon carbide semiconductor components in its inverters – a first for the brand. This technological advancement, combined with the company’s fifth-generation eDrive system, delivers up to 10% greater efficiency and pushes the maximum range to 340 miles, a notable increase from the previous model’s 309-mile range.

New Trim Levels and Lower Starting Price

The 2026 lineup introduces three distinct trim levels, headlined by a new entry-level xDrive45 model starting at $75,150 – representing a substantial $12,100 reduction from the 2025 model’s base price. The xDrive45 offers 402 horsepower and an estimated range of 312 miles. Moving up the range, the xDrive60 produces 536 horsepower and achieves the maximum 340-mile range, while the performance-focused M70 xDrive delivers 650 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

In addition, the updated iX features significant battery improvements, with the top-tier models utilizing a 113.4 kWh battery pack. The base xDrive45 employs a 100.1 kWh battery, still capable of delivering 279-312 miles of range. Charging capabilities remain robust, with a maximum charging power of 195 kW.

Design and Interior Refinements

Aesthetically, BMW has refined the iX’s distinctive design, introducing an illuminated kidney grille – standard on the M70 xDrive and optional for other trims – along with redesigned LED headlights featuring new daytime running lights and turn signals. The interior receives notable updates, including BMW’s new Curved Display OS system with OS 8.5, enabling features like video streaming and in-car gaming. The system also integrates Amazon Alexa and offers enhanced connectivity options through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For enthusiasts, BMW now offers an M Sport Package across the range, bringing sportier elements such as M Multi-Function seats, an M leather steering wheel, and distinctive trim finishes. Additional luxury options include a Climate Comfort Package with heated panels and seats, and a standard Panoramic sunroof on higher trims.

Production and Market Impact

Production of the 2026 BMW iX is scheduled to begin this March at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, with deliveries expected to start in Q2 2025. The model lineup is priced from $75,150 for the xDrive45, $88,500 for the xDrive60, and $111,500 for the range-topping M70, before destination charges.

Despite the company’s record EV sales in the U.S. last year, the iX experienced an 11% sales decline, partly attributed to its previous high entry price and increasing competition in the electric crossover segment.
