BMW U.S. EV Sales Surge 63% in Q1 2024

BMW has reported robust sales figures for the first quarter of 2024 in the United States (U.S.), presenting a 1.2% year-over-year growth with a total of 90,844 vehicle sales. Notably, amidst this growth, there has been a substantial surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales for the famous automotive brand.

In Q1 2024, BMW’s EV sales in the U.S. achieved 10,713 units, marking a big 63% increase compared to the previous year. This surge in EV sales has elevated the EV share of BMW’s total volume to 12.7%, a significant jump from 8% recorded in Q1 2023.

BMW’s EV lineup in the U.S. now contains four models, including the i4, i5, i7, and the iX. The standout performer among these models was the BMW iX, with sales combining 2,945 units in Q1 2024, leaving 7,768 units for the other EV models.

However, it is worth mentioning that BMW does not divulge individual sales figures for certain EV models like the i4, i5, and i7, as they are amalgamated with their internal-combustion engine (ICE) counterparts. Surprisingly, the retired i3 model saw an odd single sale in Q1, which adds a twist to the sales data.

BMW’s commitment to expanding its EV offerings is evident in its product strategy, with the introduction of the BMW i5 contributing to the EV industry. Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO of BMW of North America, expressed confidence in the brand’s performance, attributing it to the quality of BMW vehicles and the diversity of its product portfolio. Mackensen reiterated BMW’s commitment to delivering a premium experience to customers through its extensive dealer network.
