Xpeng will officially unveil its new G9L sport utility vehicle on Aug. 11 and begin pre-sales the same day, marking the next step in the Chinese automaker’s expansion of its flagship lineup.
Positioned as a large five-seat electric SUV, the G9L targets China’s competitive 300,000-yuan (about $44,180) segment and will serve as one of the company’s global flagship models.
Xpeng said the global debut event will take place at 7:00 p.m. Beijing Time (7:00 a.m. ET) in Guangzhou, where the company is headquartered.
The G9L joins the six-seat GX as part of Xpeng’s twin-flagship strategy. While the two models share the same underlying platform technologies, they are aimed at different types of family buyers.
According to Xpeng, development of the G9L began three years ago, with the SUV undergoing testing across 26 countries and regions. The company said the vehicle accumulated more than 6.74 million kilometers (about 4.19 million miles) of testing under a variety of road and weather conditions.

The G9L is built on an 800-volt electrical architecture that Xpeng says can add up to 450 kilometers (280 miles) of driving range in nine minutes of charging.
The SUV will also introduce the first major update to Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power.
Inside, the company says the G9L is the first production vehicle to allow both front and rear zero-gravity seats to recline into a flat bed measuring more than 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) long with a single command, without removing the headrests.
The G9L measures 5,120 mm (201.6 inches) in length and rides on a 3,100 mm (122-inch) wheelbase. Xpeng also plans to offer the model as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), continuing its dual-powertrain strategy.
