Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPeng is gearing up for its Australian debut with a lineup of innovative EVs set to challenge established players in the EV market, starting with the G6 model.

XPeng’s entry into the Australian market along with its Australian distributor TrueEV with the G6, which is a mid-size SUV positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, has already opened pre-orders. While official pricing is yet to be announced, estimates suggest a starting price range of $55,000 to $60,000 plus on-road costs.

As for the G6, it will be available in three trims. The entry-level Standard Range model arrives with a 66 kWh battery and a 190kW electric motor offering an estimated range of 435 km (270 miles). The Long Range trim upgrades to an 87.5kWh battery and a 210kW electric motor, extending the range to 570 km (354 miles). A high-performance all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is also planned for 2025. Deliveries are anticipated to start between October and December 2024.

Following the G6, XPeng has confirmed that the larger G9 SUV will join the Australian lineup before the end of 2025. The G9, which measures 4.9 meters in length, delivers up to 570 km (354 miles) of range including a top-tier dual-motor trim with 405kW of output and an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Furthermore, XPeng also announced plans to introduce the X9, a seven-seat people-mover, to the Australian market in early 2026. As a result, these diverse EV offerings demonstrate the company’s goal to cater to various buyers of the Australian EV market. Interestingly, XPeng is also considering bringing additional EV models including the P7 sedan and the newly released M03, a compact EV focused at competing with the Tesla Model 3.

With plans to launch 30 new or facelifted models in the global EV market over the next three years, XPeng’s entry into the Australian market signals the start of an expansion strategy. As the EV market continues to grow, Australian buyers can look forward to a wider range of XPeng EVs soon.
