From Smartphone Maker to Automotive Innovator

Just three years ago, Xiaomi was primarily known as a consumer electronics company. Now, it showcases as a testament to rapid industrial transformation, having already disrupted the automotive sector with its first EV, the SU7 sedan. 

Since launching the SU7 in March 2024, Xiaomi has shown remarkable production capabilities. The company manufactured 10,000 vehicles in just 32 days and impressively reached its 100,000-unit target in a mere 230 days. This success has prompted Xiaomi to raise its annual delivery target to 130,000 units, reflecting both confidence and surging market demand.

The new YU7 SUV represents Xiaomi’s strategic expansion, directly targeting the popular Tesla Model Y market. Preliminary specifications reveal an impressive EV model according to the homologation fillings to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Measuring 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, the YU7 offers a commanding road presence while maintaining a sleek and aerodynamic profile. Weighing in at 2,405 kg (5,302 lbs), the vehicle’s substantial build is complemented by an impressive top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph), ensuring both stability and performance.

The YU7 features a dual-motor powertrain, delivering a robust combined output from its 220 kW front motor and 288 kW rear motor. The power is supplied by a lithium-ion ternary battery developed by CATL, with detailed capacity specifications yet to be disclosed. This advanced battery technology promises efficiency and reliable energy storage.

In terms of design, the YU7 takes cues from Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan, showcasing the brand’s emerging design ethos.
