Xiaomi EV delivered 21,440 vehicles in March, driven by early momentum from its refreshed SU7 sedan, which posted 7,882 units following its late-month launch.

Total deliveries rose 5.03% month-on-month but declined 26.69% year-on-year, as February’s Chinese New Year slowdown and the SU7 transition period weighed on comparisons. The YU7 SUV remained the company’s volume anchor despite a notable sequential drop.

SU7 launch boosts deliveries as YU7 remains core model

The updated SU7 sedan began deliveries on March 23, just days after its official debut, quickly contributing 7,882 units. While this marked a steep 73.05% year-on-year decline due to the model transition, deliveries surged more than 3,500% from February’s 218 units, signaling strong initial ramp-up.

Xiaomi accelerated rollout by pre-manufacturing inventory ahead of launch, enabling immediate deliveries. The strategy appeared effective, with founder and CEO Lei Jun confirming over 40,000 locked-in orders in early April, according to CNEV Post.

Meanwhile, the YU7 SUV delivered 13,558 units in March, accounting for 63.24% of total volume. However, this represented a 32.87% decline from February, suggesting a temporary shift in demand toward the newly launched SU7.

Pricing strategy intensifies competition as Xiaomi targets 550,000 units

The SU7 starts at 219,900 yuan ($32,210), reinforcing Xiaomi’s aggressive pricing strategy aimed at undercutting competitors, including Tesla. The company’s ability to combine competitive pricing with rapid delivery execution continues to position it as a disruptive force in China’s EV market.

Industry-wide, China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales reached 848,000 units in March, rising 82.6% from February but falling 14.4% year-on-year, reflecting broader market volatility.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi is targeting 550,000 vehicle deliveries in 2026, a significant increase from its 411,837 units delivered in 2025. The early traction of the SU7, combined with continued YU7 demand, will likely play a central role in achieving that goal.
