Xiaomi has filed updated regulatory documents for its SU7 electric sedan, signaling an official launch expected in April. The refreshed model brings revised powertrain options, higher pricing, and updated battery sourcing as Xiaomi continues to scale its fast-growing EV business just a year after its first deliveries began.

Updated SU7 keeps its shape but boosts performance options

The updated Xiaomi SU7 appeared in China’s latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology catalog, confirming that its exterior dimensions remain unchanged from the outgoing version. The sedan measures 4,997 mm long, 1,963 mm wide, and 1,445 mm tall, riding on a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Curb weight ranges from 2,055 to 2,280 kilograms, depending on configuration, while top speed is rated at 265 km/h.

Xiaomi will again offer the SU7 in both single-motor and dual-motor variants. The single-motor version produces 235 kW, equivalent to 315 horsepower. The dual-motor setup delivers 220 kW at the front and 288 kW at the rear, positioning the SU7 competitively among China’s performance-oriented midsize electric sedans, according to CNEV Post.

Battery options include lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium packs, sourced from CATL and BYD, giving Xiaomi flexibility across cost and performance-focused trims.

Pricing rises as Xiaomi closes the gap with Tesla

Xiaomi’s EV division has already opened pre-sales for the updated SU7, starting at RMB 229,900 (about $32,920). That represents a 6.48% increase over the previous starting price of RMB 215,900. Even so, the hike significantly narrows the gap with the Tesla Model 3, shrinking the price difference from RMB 19,600 to just RMB 5,600.

As is typical in China’s EV market, Xiaomi indicated the final launch price is likely to undercut the pre-sale figure when the car officially debuts in April. The SU7 first launched on March 28, 2024, with customer deliveries beginning the following month, marking Xiaomi’s entry into vehicle manufacturing.

According to Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun, the company has delivered more than 360,000 SU7 units over the past year and nine months, averaging over 17,000 vehicles per month, an unusually rapid ramp-up for a first-time automaker.
