WEVC’s PACES Architecture Is Designed To Support Low-Volume Manufacturers With Minimal Investment In EV Technology

Watt Electric Vehicle Company (WEVC), a UK-based developer of low to medium-volume electric vehicles (EV), has revealed a cutting-edge modular architecture designed for electric passenger vehicles.
The lightweight, high-performance platform, based on WEVC’s proprietary Passenger And Commercial EV Skateboard (PACES) architecture, offers an “off-the-shelf” solution that enables low-volume manufacturers to rapidly electrify their lineups without the requirement for substantial in-house investments in EV technology development according to WEVC.
The PACES architecture, which also underpins WEVC’s eCV1 electric commercial van that was also announced recently, features a bonded aluminum platform that can be tailored to nearly any size or shape of passenger EV, from sports coupes and roadsters to off-road buggies, across front-wheel-drive (FWD) to all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations according to WEVC.
Notably, WEVC’s PACES utilizes a proprietary assembly technique called FlexTech, which interlocks and bonds flat, laser-cut aluminum pieces together. As a result, this approach results in a highly rigid, lightweight, and cost-effective chassis that requires minimal upfront investment in tooling or post-assembly machining.
Moreover, WEVC’s “module-to-chassis” system integrates the battery pack directly into the primary structure, optimizing stiffness and minimizing weight. The company aims to further enhance sustainability by exploring the use of certified recycled and low-carbon aluminum, in collaboration with Norway’s Hydro, for its eCV1 and future models.
Neil Yates, WEVC’s CEO, expressed the benefits of the company’s PACES architecture stating, “WEVC’s PACES architecture is a highly sophisticated, lightweight off-the-shelf flexible platform that is not only cost-effective but has been designed to meet ISO and European Small Series Type Approval crash standards.”
As automakers grapple with the challenges of electrification, WEVC’s modular EV platform presents a compelling solution for niche manufacturers seeking to capitalize on the growing demand for high-performance EVs without the prohibitive costs typically associated with developing proprietary EV architectures from scratch.
