Volvo had denied claims that the planned shift of EX30 and EX90 production from China to Belgium aimed to avoid potential EU tariffs on Chinese EVs. In addition, the United Kingdom’s (UK) EV production of these Volvo models will also be shifted to Belgium.

While Volvo originally planned to start its European-based EV production in 2025, recent developments have prompted an expedited timeline for the transition. As of now, the EC’s ongoing investigation into Chinese EV subsidies has heightened trade tensions, with impending tariffs expected to be announced on June 10 and after the European Parliament election on June 9.
