With certain electric vehicle (EV) models being recalled in recent times, Volvo is the latest addition as it initiated a recall of all 71,956 units of its EX30 model due to a critical software issue affecting the speedometer.

The software glitch was first discovered by Carup and it entails the speedometer entering test mode upon the EX30 startup has prompted Volvo to take swift action to address potential safety concerns.

It is unfortunate for Volvo that this recall marks the second software-related setback for the EX30 since its launch earlier in the year. Initially, the launch of the EX30 was delayed last year due to software unpreparedness, underlining ongoing challenges on the software front.

Nevertheless, Volvo has assured EX30 owners that the software issue can be solved through an over-the-air (OTA) update, providing two convenient options for implementation. In detail, Volvo has stated that EX30 owners can either initiate the update themselves when prompted by the vehicle or visit a Volvo dealership for a complimentary update service.

With no accidents or injuries being reported in connection with the software glitch, the company remains dedicated to prioritizing driver safety. Notably, the recall also comes at a critical moment for Volvo as its EX30 model is a subject of shifting its production to Belgium amid tariff concerns from the European Union (EU), signaling that United States (U.S.)-bound EX30s will come from Europe.

As Volvo is working to resolve the software glitch and restore confidence in EX30 drivers, the company is reaffirming its aim to deliver a safe and reliable driving experience. Notices have been dispatched to all EX30 owners.
