Volkswagen‘s upcoming ID. Cross electric SUV has leaked online ahead of its official unveiling, providing the clearest look yet at the automaker’s next entry-level EV.

The compact crossover is expected to serve as the electric counterpart to the popular T-Cross and could start at €27,990 in Europe, making it one of Volkswagen’s most affordable battery-electric vehicles.

Production-ready design revealed in leaked images

The leaked images show what appears to be the final production version of the ID. Cross, a small electric SUV that Volkswagen had previously only displayed in camouflaged form and concept previews.

The ID. Cross is expected to measure about 4.16 meters in length, placing it firmly in the compact crossover segment. The vehicle will share its foundations with the upcoming ID. Polo, another affordable EV that Volkswagen has already previewed, according to CarUp.

One notable detail from the leaked images is Volkswagen’s apparent return to more traditional controls. The vehicle appears to feature physical buttons and conventional door handles, a move that could appeal to buyers who prefer familiar interfaces over touch-heavy designs.

Volkswagen is positioning the ID. Cross primarily as an urban and everyday-use vehicle, though higher-range variants are expected to offer greater flexibility for longer journeys.

Multiple battery and powertrain options expected

According to leaked specifications, the entry-level ID. Cross will feature a 116-horsepower front-mounted electric motor paired with a 37 kWh battery pack. That configuration is expected to deliver an estimated range of 316 kilometers and support DC fast charging at up to 90 kW.

A mid-range version is expected to increase output to 135 horsepower while retaining the same battery pack.

The range-topping variant could offer significantly stronger performance with 211 horsepower and a larger 52 kWh battery. Volkswagen is reportedly targeting a driving range of up to 436 kilometers for this version, along with DC fast-charging speeds of up to 105 kW.

Volkswagen is said to be targeting a starting price of €27,990 in Europe for the base model. However, the first versions arriving in some markets are expected to use the larger 52 kWh battery pack, potentially pushing prices noticeably higher.

The ID. Cross will play an important role in Volkswagen’s strategy to expand its affordable EV lineup as competition intensifies in the compact electric crossover segment.
