According to Volkswagen, the ID.3 GTX Performance delivers a potent 240 kW (326 horsepower) electric motor, capable of propelling the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. This puts it on par with some of Volkswagen’s most spirited gas-powered offerings including the Golf GTI Clubsport. The standard ID.3 GTX, with its 210 kW (285 horsepower) motor, is no slouch either, providing a compelling option for buyers seeking a balance of performance and efficiency.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Development, expressed the EV model’s sporting credentials stating, “The new ID.3 GTX Performance is for me the electric counterpart to our sporty compact car icon, the Golf GTI Clubsport.”

Both GTX models are equipped with a new 79 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering an estimated WLTP range of up to 601 km (373 miles) for the Performance trim. Fast charging capabilities allow the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 26 minutes due to a maximum charging capacity of 185 kW at DC quick-charging stations.

The ID.3 GTX Performance is not just about straight-line speed. It features a GTX-specific running gear with stronger stabilizers, a MacPherson front axle, and a five-link rear axle. The optional Sport DCC adaptive chassis control ensures precise handling and excellent road holding.

For the exterior design, the GTX models stand out with unique design elements, including a distinctive front bumper with a black air intake featuring a diamond design. As for the interior, the GTX-specific features create a sporty atmosphere with the new models come equipped with the latest generation of Volkswagen’s software and infotainment system, featuring a 12.9-inch display and the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. Optional features like an augmented reality head-up display and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.

In terms of safety features, the ID.3 GTX comes with a suite of driver assistance systems as standard. These range from Autonomous Emergency Braking to Lane Assist and the innovative Car2X traffic hazard alert function.

Pricing for the ID.3 GTX starts at €50,795 ($55,498) in Germany, with the more powerful GTX Performance model available from €52,295 ($57,136) according to Volkswagen. Also, Volkswagen is offering an environmental bonus of €3,570 for all ID. models in Germany, making these high-performance EVs more accessible.

With the introduction of the ID.3 GTX and GTX Performance, Volkswagen is clearly aiming to replicate the success of its GTI badge in its EV strategy. These models not only offer strong performance but also demonstrate that EVs can deliver the kind of driving experience traditionally associated with sports-oriented gas vehicles.

As the Volkswagen continues its shift towards electrification, the ID.3 GTX models will be another component in its EV lineup that can elevate its position in the EV market.
