The U.S. Is Projected To Reach 10 Million Solar Installations By 2030 And 15 Million By 2034

After 50 years of investing in solar energy solutions from the U.S., the country has now reached a new milestone surpassing five million solar installations, benefiting many electric practicalities including electric vehicle (EV) charging. As reported by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie, the venture to boost solar energy utilization in the U.S. now signifies a momentous stride in its history.

The data unveiled by SEIA and Wood Mackenzie showcased the rapid growth of solar energy adoption in the U.S., where over half of all solar installations have been activated since the onset of 2020. Moreover, there was an extra 25% activated following the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act from 20 months ago. Notably, these solar installations include residential rooftops, commercial enterprises, and expansive utility-scale solar farms.
Interestingly, it is also reported that it is projected that the number of solar installations in the U.S. will reach 10 million by 2030 and 15 million by 2034 in just four years. These efforts have come a long way since it has only been eight years since the country reached one million solar installations in 2016. As a result, the country has achieved much since the first grid-connected solar installation in 1973.
SEIA’s President and CEO, Abigail Ross Hopper, expressed enthusiasm on the significant milestone stating, “Today 7% of homes in America have solar, and this number will grow to over 15% of U.S. homes by 2030. Solar is quickly becoming the dominant source of electricity on the grid, allowing communities to breathe cleaner air and lead healthier lives.”
Currently, residential installations take the lead with 97% of the total solar installations in the country. In terms of U.S. states, there are 11 U.S. states and territories with over 100,000 solar installations. California ranks first containing two million solar installations and other states are also experiencing growth in solar energy adoption as well.
As solar energy is growing exponentially to become a cornerstone of the U.S. energy landscape, the country will see major benefits and achieve a more sustainable future with more growth to come.
