Toyota has unveiled the all-electric 2027 Toyota Highlander, marking the nameplate’s first battery-electric three-row SUV in the U.S. The new Highlander delivers up to 320 miles of manufacturer-estimated range, as much as 338 horsepower in AWD form, and introduces vehicle-to-load capability, all while shifting production and battery assembly firmly onto American soil.
The 2027 Highlander will be offered in XLE and Limited grades, with front- or all-wheel drive configurations. AWD models equipped with a 95.8-kWh battery carry a manufacturer-estimated total driving range rating of 320 miles. In dual-motor form, the SUV produces up to 338 combined system horsepower and 323 lb.-ft. of torque, while front-drive variants deliver 221 horsepower.
Toyota has fitted the SUV with a North American Charging System (NACS) port, expanding access to DC fast-charging infrastructure across the U.S. Inside, the Highlander centers on a 14-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch driver display, along with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 and Toyota Audio Multimedia as standard equipment. Seating for up to seven is available, and with the third row folded flat, rear cargo space exceeds 45 cubic feet, according to Toyota in a press release.
“Our goal with the new Highlander was to develop a BEV that fits customers’ lives and brings a smile to their faces with sharp acceleration feel and a quiet ride,” said chief engineer Yoshinori Futonagane.

The new Highlander will be assembled in Georgetown, Kentucky, making it the first battery-electric Highlander built in the United States. Battery modules will be sourced from Toyota’s recently opened battery facility in Liberty, North Carolina, alongside a U.S. supplier partner.
The SUV also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability to a Toyota model sold in the U.S., enabling it to power external devices or serve as a backup source during outages when equipped with compatible bi-directional accessories. Toyota positions the Highlander as its fourth BEV in the American lineup, expanding beyond the bZ and C-HR offerings as the automaker moves toward a broader electrified portfolio.
Sales are expected to begin in late 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
