Tesla Had Announced Its 4680 Battery Cell Plans Back In 2020

Tesla has reaffirmed and set its targets on new changes for the past month and the company has reaffirmed while adding that its 4680 battery cells will be cheaper compared to suppliers’ ones for its electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of the year.
Tesla’s targeted goal of making cheaper 4680 battery cells was previously announced back in 2020 when the company had said the features of its tabless cells would lower costs while improving performance for its EVs. Previously, Tesla was using batteries supplied from other companies like LG, Panasonic, and CATL.
According to Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, the company plans to achieve its goal of its 4680 battery cell program beating supplier cost of nickel-based cells by the end of the year, providing an optimistic outlook for this goal.

Despite reports of Tesla encountering problems with its 4680 battery cells specifically its Cybertruck, the company has been trying to stay ahead of the Cybertruck production curve by increasing its third and fourth production lines while leaving more inventory spaces for its battery cell. It is also important to note that only Tesla’s Cybertruck uses the 4680 battery cells exclusively.
Recently, Tesla has also been making big shifts in its strategy that have changed its trajectory to new avenues. From the announcement of launching cheaper Tesla models by 2025, the company’s plans for its price points will be closely watched as we see how much more affordable it can go.
As Tesla drives down the costs of production of its 4680 battery cells while concentrating on savings in its supply chain management displays its promise being underway. As a result, Tesla’s relentless efforts to shape its position in the EV industry are strongly noticed.
