Upcoming Updates To Boost Average Range Replenishing Rate, Enabling The Cybertruck to Add Up To 154 miles Of Range In 15 Minutes

Tesla is on the verge of releasing major charging improvements for its Cybertruck electric vehicle (EV), addressing early concerns and potentially boosting the electric pickup’s performance at Supercharger stations.

The update, which has been in the works since April, is projected to be delivered through an over-the-air (OTA) software update in the coming weeks. Wes Morrill, Tesla’s Cybertruck lead engineer, recently confirmed on X that the update is “coming soon via OTA.”
This follows earlier statements by Drew Baglino, Tesla’s former SVP of Powertrain and Energy, who stated upcoming enhancements to the Cybertruck’s charging capabilities. In detail, the enhancements are set to address several concerns identified during the Cybertruck’s initial rollout, including problems with charging speed and power distribution at Supercharger stations.
One of the enhancements will be an increase in the average range replenishing rate, which will allow the Cybertruck to recover up to 154 miles of range in merely 15 minutes. As a result, this shows a major improvement over the current capabilities, which stand at 128 miles for the Cyberbeast and 136 miles for the all-wheel-drive version in the same timeframe.

Another critical update may address the concern that incorrectly instructs Supercharger stalls to limit amperage to 100A when the Cybertruck arrives with a very low state of charge, where this issue has led to longer charging times and reduced efficiency at Supercharger stations. The OTA update will aim to resolve this, allowing the Cybertruck to take full advantage of the 350A maximum output of V3 Supercharger stalls.
These improvements are particularly crucial for the Cybertruck, which utilizes Tesla’s new 4680 battery cells. The charging curve of these cells has presented some challenges, similar to those experienced in other Tesla vehicles equipped with 4680 cells. The upcoming update is expected to address these issues and potentially benefit other Tesla models using the same battery technology.
As Tesla continues to refine the Cybertruck’s performance and address early adopter feedback, these charging improvements showcases the company’s dedication to improve the driving and charging experience through software updates. With the Cybertruck taking a big role in Tesla’s strategy, the EV market will closely observe while waiting for its updates.
