Tesla Registers New Model 3+ Variant in China with Potential 800 km Range

Tesla has filed for regulatory approval of a new Model 3 variant in China that could become its longest-range vehicle to date. Listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) latest catalog, the rear-wheel-drive Model 3+’s expected range could exceed 800 kilometers, surpassing the 753 km CLTC range of the current Model 3 Long Range.

Single motor and LG batteries hint at maximum range

The Model 3+, which is listed in the MIIT catalog as product model number TSL7000BEVBR1, is positioned as a high-efficiency alternative to the current Model 3 lineup in China.

The Model 3 has three versions in China: the base rear-wheel drive, the long-range all-wheel drive, and the performance AWD. The new variant’s combination of a single motor and LG-supplied ternary batteries offers better energy density than the base model’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, according to a CNEV Post report. 

These batteries are expected to become the difference-maker that would allow the new Model 3+ to achieve 800 kilometers of CLTC range.

Regulatory listing brings Model 3+ one step closer to market

With a curb weight of 1,760 kg and top speed of 200 km/h, the Model 3+ maintains identical dimensions to the vehicle’s existing trims.

The MIIT catalog listing is the final major step before the vehicle is cleared for sale. Public comments are open from July 17–23. While Tesla has not officially confirmed the variant’s name or release timeline, its presence in the filing suggests imminent market entry. 

Tesla’s Model 3 sold 91,919 units in China from January to June, a 30.38% year-over-year increase, though June saw an 8.35% year-on-year decline.
