Tesla Model Y Sees Strong Sales in Norway Amid European Slump

Tesla is on pace to break sales records in Norway this June, even as its market performance declines elsewhere in Europe. From June 1 to 19, 2,374 new Teslas were registered in Norway, most of them new Model Y units. June 2025 could become one of Tesla’s strongest sales months in the country to date.

Of the 2,374 registrations this month, 2,068 were Model Y units, including 330 in a single day on June 18, the highest daily tally since last December. The momentum builds on a strong May, where Tesla saw sales rise over 200% year-over-year in Norway.

Updated Model Y drives strong demand in Norway

Tesla’s surge in Norway is largely attributed to the updated Model Y, which has drawn renewed interest among Norwegian buyers, according to CarUp. During the first five months of 2025, 7,381 Teslas have been registered in Norway, an improvement over the 6,815 units recorded during the same period in 2023. 

With 10 days left in June, the company is expected to surpass last year’s total of 3,672 vehicles sold during the month. The Model Y’s dominance in the market, affordability relative to other EVs, and Tesla’s established presence in Norway appear to be reinforcing the brand’s popularity, even as other regions falter.

Swedish market tells a different story

In neighboring Sweden, Tesla’s fortunes have sharply declined. So far in June, only 454 new Teslas have been registered: just 397 Model Ys and 57 Model 3s. In June last year, Sweden saw 2,919 Teslas registered. In the first half of 2024, 9,405 Teslas were registered in the country. This year, this figure is only 3,095 so far.

Tesla’s uneven performance across Europe is influenced by rising EV competition and lingering effects from Elon Musk’s polarizing political statements. Meanwhile, the company is pushing to expand Full Self-Driving (FSD) testing across Europe, with pilot runs underway in Amsterdam, Paris, and other European areas. Stockholm, however, has denied Tesla permission to test on public roads.
