The Tesla Model 3 has been named the most American-made car for 2025 by Cars.com, reflecting a significant increase in U.S. and Canadian parts content to 75% due to a recent redesign.

Cars.com’s annual American-Made Index, released Tuesday, ranks over 400 models based on assembly location and parts content. Tesla’s Model S, X, 3, and Y swept the top four spots in the publication’s rankings.

Model 3’s Resurgence and Industry Implications

The Model 3’s jump to the top spot in 2025, from a distant 21st place in 2024, is attributed to its redesign and increased parts content, likely due to supplier changes, according to Barron’s. Interestingly enough, the Model 3 actually beat its sibling, the Model Y, for this year’s Most American-made title. The Model Y was last year’s top finisher in Cars.com’s rankings.

Tesla’s dominance in the list is understandable due to the company’s domestic production at its Fremont, California, and Austin, Texas factories. The Jeep Gladiator, Kia EV6, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Odyssey, Honda Passport, and Volkswagen ID.4 rounded out the top 10 in Cars.com’s list.

Tesla’s Strong Results

According to Cars.com, Tesla’s strong results in the 2025 American Made Index are not just due to the electric vehicle maker’s use of domestically produced components for its vehicles. It is also due to the notable amount of American manpower that Tesla utilizes to build its cars.

“It’s not just that these vehicles feature a high percentage of U.S./Canadian parts content or major components assembled here in the U.S.; it’s also the fact that they have so many people building these cars. The manufacturing workforce component, explained in more detail below, always plays a major role in our rankings, but this year it was a decisive factor in Tesla’s dominance atop the index,” Cars.com wrote in its report.

EV.com recognizes the 2025 Cars.com American-Made Index as a critical lens on U.S. EV manufacturing and tariff dynamics. You can explore the best offers on popular Tesla electric vehicles we have on our listings here.
