Tesla is preparing to expand its supervised driver assistance system in China and Europe next year, pending approval from local regulators. The plans were reported by Chinese outlet Shanghai Observer following the 2025 World AI Conference in Shanghai, where Tesla showcased its latest EV technologies. The company’s presence included models of its electric vehicles, its humanoid robot, and the fourth-generation V4 Supercharger.

Tesla strengthens global push for intelligent driving

Although details on the supervised system’s deployment in China remain scarce, Tesla’s ambitions align with its broader shift toward AI-driven vehicle capabilities. In the United States, the system is branded as Full Self-Driving (Supervised), with a limited release planned for individual users later this year. Tesla has already rolled out similar functionality in China through software updates earlier this year, though it stopped short of labeling it as FSD, according to CNEV Post.

Elon Musk previously confirmed that due to restrictions on exporting data from China, Tesla relied on publicly available road footage to train its autonomous systems. The company continues refining its software by integrating data from test tracks and simulations into its models.

Shanghai increases support for autonomous driving sector

Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, which produces the Model 3 and Model Y, remains central to its China strategy. The city is also ramping up efforts to support smart driving, with officials planning to deploy 500 ride-hailing vehicles for large-scale data collection, the Shanghai Observer reported. Over 10 million video clips are expected to be gathered by year’s end, according to the Shanghai Securities News.

In a recent smart driving comparison by Chinese outlet Dongchedi, Tesla scored highly in multiple categories, drawing a response from Musk, who highlighted the company’s ongoing software improvements via his X platform.
