Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production at Texas Factory Around Mid-2027 for Cybercab

Tesla plans to wind down production of its electric Cybertruck pickup at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027, with CEO Elon Musk saying the move will make room for increased Cybercab robotaxi production.

Musk did not say whether Cybertruck production would end at other locations, and he later said the Cybertruck fleet will be around for a long time.

Musk says the Cybertruck fleet will remain on the road for years

Musk announced the plan in a post on X on Friday, November 6. The Cybertruck is currently built exclusively at the Texas factory, alongside the Model Y and the two-seat Cybercab.

Responding to an X user who called the update an “end of an era” and the Cybertruck the best vehicle Tesla had ever made, Musk wrote, “True, but the Cybertruck fleet will be around for a long time”, according to CNBC.

The statement covers production at Gigafactory Texas and does not establish that Tesla is discontinuing the model everywhere. Tesla has not said whether it will keep building the electric pickup at another plant.

Cybertruck deliveries started in late 2023. Before launch, Musk predicted annual sales could eventually reach 250,000 units.

Cybertruck U.S. sales fell sharply in 2025

Tesla does not break out Cybertruck sales by model or region. Cox Automotive estimated U.S. Cybertruck sales at 20,237 units last year, down 48% from 38,965 in 2024.

The pickup drew a niche following with its unconventional design but did not reach mass-market sales. CNBC also cited specifications that fell short of some pre-launch figures, plus quality and production problems including several recalls.

The planned shift is meant to free capacity for the Cybercab, which Musk has described as an important future product. For now, his comments point to a Texas wind-down around mid-2027 while the existing fleet is expected to stay in service for years.
