The Vandalism Occurred During A Presentation At The Tesla Center Hamburg-Wandsbek

Climate activists in Hamburg, Germany, have vandalized a Tesla Cybertruck electric vehicle (EV) during a presentation at the Tesla Center Hamburg-Wandsbek.
At the presentation, the event saw members of the activist group “The Last Generation” splashing orange paint on the electric pickup truck and displaying a sign reading “Gepanzert in die katastrophe.” which translates to “armored in the catastrophe.”

In detail, the activists’ main concerns revolve around the Cybertruck’s weight, energy consumption, and safety features with criticism on the Cybertruck’s sharp-edged construction as a “safety disaster.” Hendrik Fauer, one of the protesters, explained their stance on X: “The Cybertruck weighs almost three tons, so its enormous weight means it consumes an absurdly high amount of energy. Senseless waste that we as a society cannot afford.”

This event is part of a larger pattern of opposition Tesla has faced in Europe, particularly in Germany. The company’s Gigafactory Berlin has been a target of protests, with activists attempting to stop its expansion and raising concerns about water usage and environmental impact. In response, Musk agreed to a X users post that condemn the vandalism. In May, a protest by the Disrupt Alliance group at Giga Berlin resulted in multiple arrests and injuries.

The vandalism in Hamburg follows similar incidents in the United States (U.S.), where Cybertrucks have been vandalized with spray-paint. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the latest attack on X, stating, “Something very strange is happening since Tesla was the only car company to be attacked.”
Despite being an EV automaker, Tesla finds itself at odds with some environmental groups, where there have been concerns about the Cybertruck’s potential approval for European roads, citing its weight and design as potential barriers to meeting safety regulations.
As Tesla cleaned the vandalized Cybertruck and resumed its promotional tour in Germany, this incident highlights the complex relationship between Tesla and environmental activists, as well as the ongoing debate about sustainable transportation solutions as the company continues to expand its presence in Europe.
