The Smart #5 Will Aim To Launch In China By End Of 2024 With Europe Aiming For Early 2025

Smart, the automotive brand now jointly owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz, has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Smart #5, at a world premiere event in Byron Bay, Australia.
According to Smart, the Smart #5 features Geely’s advanced PMA2+ platform with an 800-volt architecture and is equipped with a 100 kWh battery that supports up to 400 kW DC fast charging. It offers a range of up to 740 km according to the CLTC standard. The powertrain options include rear-wheel drive (RWD) configurations of 250 kW or 267 kW, and all-wheel drive (AWD) options of 432 kW or 475 kW.
In terms of charging speed, the Smart #5 achieves 10% to 80% charge in just 15 minutes. As for its build, the Smart #5’s dimensions are 4,705 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,705 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. For cargo, it provides 1,530 liters of space with the rear seats folded and an additional 72 liters in the front trunk.
The Smart #5 features a design collaboration between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, with characteristic Smart elements like the panoramic halo roof and frameless doors. The interior comes with premium materials including leather seats and oak wood trim. Other comfort features include zero-gravity seats with 121 degrees of recline, ambient lighting with 256 colors, a built-in projector with Sennheiser Signature Sound System, and 34 storage compartments.
Notably, the Smart #5 features a 25.6-inch Augmented Reality Head-up Display, a 10.3-inch Ultra HD LCD instrument cluster, and a generative AI voice assistant with smart avatars.
At its premiere event, Smart introduced two trims with the Smart #5 Summit Edition and Smart #5 Premium+. For the Summit Edition, it features the “Adventurers’ Collection” package, which includes a roof light bar, electric trailer hitch, underbody protection, roof carrier, and side steps with a ladder.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, expressed about the Smart #5 stating, “With this new vehicle, we are expanding into a new market segment, reflecting our commitment to quality, innovation, and addressing the evolving needs of our customers.”
While official pricing has not been announced, the introduction of the #5, Smart has officially transformed into a portfolio brand, offering a range of EVa to meet diverse buyer needs. The Smart #5 is projetced to launch in China by the end of 2024, followed by a European release in early 2025.
