Rivian has removed the previously advertised $45,000 starting price for its upcoming R2 electric SUV from the company’s website ahead of the model’s official debut. The change comes just days before the vehicle’s launch event and suggests that the final pricing strategy for Rivian’s mass-market EV may still be evolving.

The R2 had originally been promoted as Rivian’s most affordable vehicle and a key step toward expanding the brand beyond its premium R1 lineup.

Rivian removes $45K starting price from R2 webpage

Rivian previously highlighted a $45,000 starting price for the R2 when the vehicle was first announced in 2024, positioning the model as the company’s first true mass-market EV. That price point remained listed in the company’s Q4 2025 earnings materials as recently as February, but it has now been removed from the R2’s webpage.

The change suggests Rivian may still be evaluating the final pricing structure for the vehicle as it prepares for launch, according to a 32cars report.

Industry analysts have pointed to several factors that could influence pricing decisions, including rising raw material costs, logistics expenses, and broader market volatility. Rivian is also still working to improve production efficiency for its current R1S and R1T models as it moves toward profitability.

At launch, the R2 is expected to debut with higher-end variants, including Dual-Motor Performance versions and a Launch Edition with additional premium equipment. Those trims could reportedly approach $60,000, placing the vehicle closer to rivals like the Tesla Model Y, which currently starts around $57,490.

Early R2 trims may debut first before lower-cost variants

Rivian is expected to introduce more affordable R2 versions after the initial launch models, though the final pricing for those variants has not yet been confirmed.

The automaker is targeting one of its fastest product rollouts to date for the new vehicle. Early plans call for 20,000 to 25,000 R2 deliveries in 2026, with production ramping quickly after the model’s debut.

The R2 launch is widely seen as a critical step for Rivian as it transitions toward higher-volume production and a broader customer base.

The company is expected to reveal additional details about the R2, including finalized specifications and pricing, during its upcoming launch presentation.
