Rivian said the first R2 model available in spring 2026 will be a dual-motor Performance version with a Launch Package, priced at $57,990.

Rivian has revealed initial pricing and rollout plans for its upcoming R2 electric SUV, confirming that the first version to reach customers will be a higher-end performance model rather than the previously discussed entry-level trim. The launch configuration is expected to start at roughly $57,990, with more affordable versions arriving later as the company scales production.
The R2 is widely viewed as a critical product for Rivian as the automaker attempts to transition from a niche EV manufacturer into a higher-volume brand.
Rivian said the first R2 model available in spring 2026 will be a dual-motor Performance version with a Launch Package, priced at $57,990.
The launch model will include all-wheel drive, an estimated 330-mile range, and 656 horsepower with 609 lb-ft of torque. Rivian said the vehicle will accelerate from 0–60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds.
The Launch Package will also include lifetime access to Rivian’s Autonomy+ advanced driver assistance system, along with other premium features, according to CNBC.
Additional versions of the R2 will follow as Rivian expands the lineup. The company plans to introduce an R2 Premium trim in late 2026 starting at $53,990, featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 450 horsepower.
An R2 Standard rear-wheel-drive variant is expected to arrive in the first half of 2027, starting at $48,490 and delivering up to 345 miles of range.

Rivian has continued to reference a more affordable R2 variant priced around $45,000, though that version is expected to arrive later in 2027.
The R2 represents a pivotal moment for the company as it attempts to grow sales beyond its current R1 lineup, which includes the R1S SUV and R1T pickup, both starting above $70,000.
From a design perspective, the R2 is expected to resemble a smaller version of the R1S, though Rivian has redesigned key systems including the vehicle’s software architecture, electrical systems, and components to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has described the R2 as a turning point for the company’s growth strategy, positioning it to compete not only with electric rivals like the Tesla Model Y but also with popular gas-powered SUVs.
Analysts say the R2 could play a central role in Rivian’s long-term growth as the company aims to increase production at its Normal, Illinois plant and prepare a future manufacturing facility in Georgia capable of producing hundreds of thousands of vehicles annually.
