Rivian R1T Earns Edmunds’ Top Rated Electric Truck Award For Second Straight Year

The Rivian R1T has been named Edmunds’ Top Rated Electric Truck for 2026, marking the second consecutive year the all-electric pickup has earned the publication’s highest honor.

Edmunds cited the R1T’s blend of performance, range, refinement, and everyday usability, giving the truck an overall score of 7.9 out of 10.

Edmunds Praises R1T’s Real-World Performance

In Edmunds’ real-world range testing, the Rivian R1T equipped with the Max battery pack traveled 390 miles on a single charge. The publication also highlighted the truck’s performance, noting that the Max Pack version remains the most powerful electric pickup currently available, according to RivianTrackr.

Beyond the specifications, Edmunds said the R1T has matured significantly since its launch. The publication pointed to improvements delivered through software updates and ongoing hardware refinements, concluding that Rivian has addressed many of the issues associated with early production models.

Those changes helped elevate the R1T beyond simply being an impressive electric truck on paper. According to Edmunds, it is now the first electric pickup the publication would confidently recommend to buyers looking for an all-around package.

GMC Sierra EV Finishes As Runner-Up

The GMC Sierra EV finished second in Edmunds’ rankings, earning a score of 7.2 out of 10.

While it fell short of the R1T overall, the Sierra EV impressed with its exceptional driving range. Edmunds recorded 429 miles for the Extended Range model and 507 miles for the Max Range version during its real-world testing.

The Sierra EV also undercuts the Rivian on price, with a starting MSRP of $64,495.

Despite those advantages, Edmunds concluded that the Rivian R1T delivers the stronger overall ownership experience by balancing performance, capability, technology, refinement, and usability.

The repeat award comes as Rivian continues to expand its lineup and strengthen its position in the growing electric truck segment. With more competitors entering the market, earning back-to-back recognition from a publication known for extensive real-world testing suggests the R1T remains one of the benchmark electric pickups available today.
