Rivian Enhances Vehicles’ Navigation With Google Maps and In-App Features

Rivian is rolling out a major upgrade to its navigation system, integrating Google Maps’ real-time routing, traffic data, satellite imagery, and points of interest while retaining its EV-specific features. The new system, launching across Rivian vehicles and the mobile app, aims to improve trip planning, range accuracy, and charging convenience for Rivian owners.

The Google Maps Advantage

Through its expanded partnership with Google Maps, Rivian is offering drivers enhanced estimated arrival times, automatic rerouting, and fresh traffic disruption alerts. Satellite imagery and tappable points of interest now bring detailed information, including reviews, business hours, and contact info, directly to the Rivian screen. These upgrades build on Rivian’s existing use of Google’s global place database, as noted in a Rivian Stories post.

The system will also visually highlight topography and natural spaces with a redesigned map interface that prioritizes glanceability. Satellite and traffic views are also now available in the Rivian mobile app with a Connect+ subscription, along with expanded trip-sharing capabilities across devices and platforms.

EV-focused features

Despite the Google Maps enhancements, Rivian’s custom EV functionality remains intact. Drivers will still see precise range-on-arrival estimates based on vehicle load, gear, and driving habits. Charging stops are auto-curated based on efficiency and charger quality, with Rivian’s proprietary Charging Score used to prioritize reliability.

The update supports Tesla Superchargers, the Rivian Adventure Network, and other public chargers. New visual features like charging adapter reminders and range overlays aim to make long-distance travel more seamless.
