Rivian has removed the least expensive versions of its R1T pickup and R1S SUV from its lineup, eliminating the Dual Motor Standard Pack models for the 2026 model year.

The move raises the starting prices of both vehicles by $7,000, though buyers now receive significantly more driving range with the new entry-level configurations.

Large battery pack becomes the new standard

The Dual Motor Standard Pack variants have disappeared from Rivian’s online configurator, leaving the Dual Motor Large Pack as the new base option for both models.

The 2026 Rivian R1T Dual Motor Large now starts at $81,885, while the R1S Dual Motor Large begins at $85,885. Both represent a $7,000 increase over the discontinued Standard Pack versions, according to Car and Driver.

The pricing increase is accompanied by a substantial improvement in driving range. The outgoing Standard Pack models were EPA-rated for up to 270 miles on a full charge, while the Large Pack increases maximum range to as much as 329 miles, an improvement of 59 miles.

Rivian had previously indicated that the Standard Pack models would eventually be phased out, making the change less surprising for those following the company’s product strategy.

R1 lineup shifts as Rivian prepares for the R2

The lineup adjustment comes as Rivian prepares to expand its portfolio with the upcoming R2 compact SUV, which is expected to play a major role in the automaker’s growth strategy.

Creating greater separation between the premium R1 family and the more affordable R2 could help Rivian better position both product lines. The change also leaves room for higher-end R2 variants without overlapping too closely with the least expensive R1 models.

For comparison, Rivian’s highest-spec R2 Performance Launch Edition is expected to start at $59,485. Equipped with the Long Range battery pack, the company estimates it will deliver up to 330 miles of driving range, nearly matching the entry-level R1 models while carrying a substantially lower price.

Buyers who were hoping to purchase a Dual Motor Standard Pack R1T or R1S may still be able to find remaining inventory vehicles before dealer stock is depleted.
