Rivian marked a key milestone this week with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new manufacturing facility in Georgia. Joined by state and local leaders, the EV maker confirmed the plant represents a multi-billion-dollar investment that is expected to create 7,500 jobs by 2030.

Customer vehicle production is slated to begin in 2028, with the site set to become Rivian’s hub for next-generation models, including the R2 SUV and R3 crossover.

Georgia facility to support large-scale EV production

The facility will be built in two phases, each capable of producing 200,000 vehicles annually, bringing total capacity to 400,000 units once complete. Construction is expected to start in 2026, with the first phase preparing the site for initial production runs, according to a press release.

Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe emphasized the importance of the project for both the company’s global growth and American manufacturing leadership. “We are cementing Rivian’s future at our Georgia plant, helping ensure America maintains its technology leadership and excellence in automobile manufacturing,” said Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe.

“Our Georgia facility will support our global expansion and provide the scale necessary to get millions of future drivers in our incredible all-electric vehicles, both in the United States and overseas,” Scaringe said.

Jobs and economic impact for Georgia communities

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp highlighted the long-term economic impact of the project, noting the 7,500 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs expected to result directly from Rivian’s investment. A broader economic analysis projects an additional 8,000 indirect jobs, with more than $1 billion in annual labor income tied to suppliers and small businesses across Jasper, Morgan, Newton, and Walton Counties.

“Today is another milestone in bringing quality, good-paying jobs to Georgians in this part of the state. With today’s groundbreaking, this innovative company is further delivering on its commitment to the people of Georgia, and the thousands of hardworking Americans who will work at this facility will see generational benefits for their families,” he stated.

Speaker of the House Jon Burns said, “This innovative company is further delivering on its commitment to the people of Georgia, and the thousands of hardworking Americans who will work at this facility will see generational benefits for their families.” Rivian also plans to integrate community-focused features into the nearly 2,000-acre site, including trails and a Rivian experience center.
