The move underscores the company’s long-term growth ambitions as it prepares to launch higher-volume vehicles and expand domestic manufacturing.

Rivian is expanding the planned capacity of its Georgia factory to 300,000 vehicles annually, a 50% increase aimed at lowering costs and scaling U.S. EV production.
The move underscores the company’s long-term growth ambitions as it prepares to launch higher-volume vehicles and expand domestic manufacturing.
Rivian confirmed that its future facility in Stanton Springs North, Georgia will now target 300,000 units annually in its first phase, up from the originally planned 200,000.
CEO RJ Scaringe said the increased capacity will improve cost efficiency and support the company’s expansion as it ramps production of next-generation models like the Rivian R2, according to a press release.
The company is working with the U.S. Department of Energy to update a loan package of up to $4.5 billion, designed to support construction and manufacturing. Rivian expects to begin drawing on the loan in early 2027, with vehicle production scheduled to start in late 2028.
Construction is set to accelerate in 2026, with key infrastructure such as stamping operations already in preparation as the site transitions into vertical build-out.

The Georgia plant is expected to create thousands of jobs and play a central role in Rivian’s broader strategy to scale production while maintaining cost discipline. Increasing initial capacity allows the company to better position itself for higher demand and future expansion phases.
The facility is also tied to Rivian’s growing autonomy ambitions. Through its partnership with Uber Technologies, the automaker plans to produce up to 50,000 robotaxis at the Georgia site starting in 2028.
As Rivian continues investing in infrastructure, the expanded plant capacity reflects a shift toward higher-volume manufacturing and long-term competitiveness in the global EV market.
