Rivian’s newest software update introduces cost-saving charging tools, expanded autonomy features, and richer in-car audio. The upgrade aims to make ownership more affordable and enjoyable, while also showcasing the company’s growing reliance on software-defined improvements.

Highlights include a Smart Charging Schedule Recommendation, hands-free driving enhancements, and customizable sound settings.

Smart charging and grid-friendly scheduling

The Smart Charging Schedule Recommendation is designed to help Rivian owners reduce home charging costs by automatically shifting sessions to off-peak hours. Rivian estimates drivers could save up to 20% annually, or as much as $900 a year in certain markets, depending on local electricity rates. The feature not only cuts costs but also reduces grid strain and increases clean energy use by more than 10% in some regions.

To activate the tool, owners confirm their home location and utility provider within the Rivian app. Once linked, the vehicle can automatically optimize charging times around the lowest available rates, ensuring the car is fully charged and ready for use without manual scheduling, according to Rivian in a blog post on its official website.

Enhanced autonomy and personalized audio

The update also strengthens Rivian’s Highway Assist features. Drivers of Gen 2 vehicles can now shift their lane position while hands-free driving remains active, providing added comfort near barriers or large trucks. Availability of Enhanced Highway Assist has expanded by over 50%, allowing for longer stretches of uninterrupted hands-free travel. Rivian says improvements to its AI-driven perception system have sharpened lane centering, especially on tighter highway curves.

On the entertainment side, Rivian added the ability to customize existing equalizer profiles and create two additional presets. Gen 2 vehicles benefit from upgraded low-frequency response and improved sound staging, delivering a richer, more defined listening experience.
