Porsche has announced that it will extend its involvement in the world of electric vehicle (EV) racing regarding ABB FIA Formula E World Championship into its forthcoming GEN4 era. Through this decision by Porsche, the company will ensure its lineup is introduced in Season 13 (2026/2027) of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Porsche’s journey in Formula E racing started in the 2019/2020 season with second-generation racing EVs that eliminated the need for mid-race car swaps due to range limitations. The series has since progressed to its third generation, with racing EVs delivering up to 350 kW of electric power, maximum recuperation of 600 kW, and top speeds exceeding 300 km/h (186 mph).

Notably, the upcoming GEN3 Evo with an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 1.82 seconds, is set to further improve performance ahead of the GEN4 debut, which aims for up to 600 kW of power output and a regenerative capacity of up to 700 kW.

Porsche had initially planned its Formula E involvement for five years until the 2023/2024 season but extended it by two more years until the end of 2026 last summer. Now, it is extending its commitment to Formula E as the third manufacturer along with Nissan and Jaguar until 2030 according to Pablo Martino, Head of Formula E Championship, FIA. As a result, this latest extension underlines Porsche’s long-term commitment to Formula E and its investment in advancing EV technology in the racing sector offered by the GEN4 racing EVs.

Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG, expressed the decision for Porsche to extend its Formula E commitment stating, “Right from the outset, we regarded our Formula E commitment as long-term,” stated Steiner. “The evolution of racing vehicles shows how much development potential there is in e-mobility. Going forward, we want to glean even more knowledge from Formula E that we can transfer to our roadgoing sports cars. As one of the most competitive series in motor racing, it’s already pushing us to achieve technological excellence.”

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, added to Steiner’s statements by emphasizing the Formula E championship’s position for promoting innovation and sustainability stating, “Like Formula E, we want to add innovative technologies and increased sustainability to motorsport – and be at the cutting edge of new developments. The world championship offers a first-class stage for this: racing at the highest level, public interest worldwide, and high technological relevance.”

As Formula E becomes more popular in the motorsport racing realm, Porsche’s attachment to it will certainly make it stand out even more.
