Nissan ARIYA Drivers Unlock Access To Over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers

Nissan is set to revolutionize charging convenience for its ARIYA electric vehicle (EV) drivers by providing access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of EV charging in North America.

A New Era of Charging Accessibility

Starting December 10, Nissan ARIYA drivers will gain access to over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers across the United States (U.S.) and Canada. This expansion dramatically enhances the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network (NECN), bringing the total number of public chargers to more than 100,000 in the U.S. and 25,000 in Canada.

The Adapter Solution

To make this integration possible, Nissan is introducing a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter kit priced at $235. Drivers can order this adapter through Nissan dealerships or Nissan’s U.S. website. Looking ahead, Nissan plans to future-proof its approach by incorporating built-in NACS ports in all U.S. and Canadian EVs starting in 2025.

A Comprehensive Charging Ecosystem

The NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network offers a diverse and expansive charging solution, extending far beyond a single network. It integrates several key charging networks to provide broader access and convenience for EV owners.

In the U.S., the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network includes Electrify America, Shell Recharge, ChargePoint, and EVgo. As for Canada, the network connects to ChargeHub, Shell Recharge, FLO, ChargePoint, Circuit Electrique, BC Hydro, and IVY Network.

Technology Meets Convenience

Nissan is not just expanding charging options but also simplifying the user experience. The MyNISSAN app allows ARIYA owners to:

• Search real-time charging station availability
• Monitor charging status
• Manage payments seamlessly

Users can initiate charging sessions with a simple tap in the app, using their pre-stored payment method.

Important Considerations

It is worth noting that this access is currently limited to ARIYA drivers. Nissan LEAF owners, which use a different charging connector (CHAdeMO), will continue to use the NissanConnect EV and Services app for now.

The ARIYA’s front passenger-side charge port is an additional benefit, potentially making Supercharger station parking more convenient and reducing the likelihood of blocking other charging stalls.

This move reflects a broader trend in the EV market: increasing interoperability and reducing charging infrastructure barriers. By partnering with Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, Nissan is addressing one of the most significant pain points for EV owners – charging accessibility.
