Nio introduced an upgraded version of its Firefly compact EV, adding performance and feature enhancements while keeping pricing unchanged. The update reflected the company’s strategy of rolling out incremental improvements across its lineup, as strong March deliveries and an expanding product cadence supported its push to strengthen appeal among urban EV buyers.

Firefly gains features and performance without price increase

The refreshed Firefly retained its starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,470) with the battery included, while buyers opting for battery-as-a-service (BaaS) could enter at 79,800 yuan plus a monthly rental fee. Higher trims also held steady pricing, reinforcing Nio’s approach of delivering added value without increasing cost.

The update introduced new styling elements, including a “Maillard” color option and a redesigned two-tone lower bumper. Inside, the model gained several highly requested features, such as a tire pressure monitoring system and rearview mirrors with automatic tilt-down and memory functions, according to CNEV Post.

Performance also improved, with peak motor output rising from 105 kW to 120 kW. This reduced the vehicle’s 0–100 km/h acceleration time to 7.9 seconds. Existing owners were not left behind, as Nio enabled the power upgrade through an over-the-air update, extending improvements to earlier units.

The model also received the Aster 1.4.0 software update, adding enhanced cabin personalization, new in-car interaction features, and support for Nintendo Switch screen casting, further positioning Firefly as a tech-forward urban EV.

Nio accelerates product cycle amid strong delivery momentum

The Firefly update arrived as Nio continued an aggressive product rollout strategy across its brands. The company delivered 35,486 vehicles in March, signaling improving sales momentum, while Firefly surpassed 50,000 cumulative deliveries ahead of its one-year milestone.

Additional software upgrades introduced new driver assistance features, including a tracking reverse function capable of retracing up to 100 meters and a false acceleration suppression system designed to improve safety. These updates aligned with Nio’s broader push to enhance both convenience and driver confidence.

Beyond Firefly, Nio recently refreshed several core models, including the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6, while maintaining pricing. Upcoming launches from its sub-brands, alongside continued expansion of its fifth-generation battery swap network, underscored a coordinated effort to strengthen its ecosystem ahead of major industry events like the Beijing Auto Show.
