In detail, the partnership will see Cinemo’s advanced multimedia technology integrated into NIO’s latest EV models including the ET7, EL7, ET5, ET5 Touring, EL6, and EL8. NIO owners in Europe will also now have access to their favorite movies and TV series through the EV’s center display, powered by Cinemo’s CARS Online Video technology.

Furthermore, Cinemo’s CARS product portfolio, specifically chosen by NIO, is made to improve the Android Automotive Operating System. In terms of features, it offers customizable applications supporting multi-screen viewing, premium video-on-demand, and immersive audio experiences. Notably, these features comply with Android Car User Experience Restrictions to ensure safety while driving on the road.

Moreover, one of the advantages of this system is its ability to receive regular updates through NIO’s software-over-the-air (SOTA) and firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) capabilities. As a result, this ensures that new features and improvements are constantly added to the entertainment system, keeping the user experience fresh and up-to-date.

Benjamin Steinmetz, Product Experience Director at NIO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership stating, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Cinemo to provide our users with best-in-class video-on-demand experiences. Using Cinemo’s suite of advanced multimedia solutions ensures we can always provide our users with the latest in-vehicle digital media experiences.”

Despite the benefits to this partnership, the timing arrives at a time when NIO and other Chinese EV manufacturers are facing challenges in the European market with the European Union’s (EU) decision to increase tariffs on Chinese EVs up to 38.1%. Nevertheless, NIO’s team up with Cinemo demonstrates the company’s commitment to enhancing user experience and maintaining its competitive edge in the European EV market.
