Nio has opened its first retail location in Greece, expanding its European footprint while continuing a broader shift toward a lower-cost operating model across the region.
The new Nio House Athens, launched in partnership with local distributor Motodynamics Group, allows Greek consumers to experience and purchase several of the company’s electric vehicles as Nio balances overseas growth ambitions with a renewed focus on profitability.
Nio House Athens officially opened on June 11 and welcomed the public beginning June 12. The location was developed alongside Motodynamics Group, Nio’s exclusive distribution partner in Greece, and is situated in Kifissia, a northern Athens district known for its commercial and cultural significance.
Customers visiting the new location can explore and purchase several of Nio’s key models, including the ET5 sedan, ET5 Touring wagon, and EL6 electric SUV. Nio’s compact EV brand, Firefly, also made its Greek debut alongside the store opening, featuring customized artwork created with local visual artist Gera, according to CNEV Post.
The launch represents another step in Nio’s evolving European strategy. In 2025, the company entered a distribution agreement with Motodynamics covering Greece, Cyprus, and Bulgaria. Rather than investing heavily in company-owned retail infrastructure, Nio is increasingly relying on local partners to handle sales and market development.
The approach marks a notable departure from the automaker’s original European expansion plan, which centered on company-operated flagship locations and direct sales channels.

Earlier this year, Nio began restructuring several of its European operations. While Norway continues to operate under a direct-sales model due to its exceptionally high EV adoption rate, markets including Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden have shifted toward distributor-led operations.
The transition forms part of a larger effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs as Nio pursues international growth. The company has also reorganized its global business structure around functional divisions rather than country-specific teams.
The strategy comes as Nio’s financial performance has improved. During the first quarter of 2026, the company reported adjusted operating profit of 66.8 million yuan, marking its second consecutive profitable quarter.
Even as Nio expands across Europe, the company continues to address challenges in the region. European customers have expressed concerns about slower software update rollouts compared with China, and Nio recently confirmed that its Banyan 3.0.0 system is not currently planned for European markets. However, the company reiterated its commitment to the region and said additional firmware-over-the-air updates are scheduled to arrive later this year.
