Chinese EV maker Nio’s compact EV brand Firefly will begin deliveries in Europe on August 14, 2025. The Firefly brand will start deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands.
The rollout marks Nio’s push to capture the European market with a smaller, city-friendly model. The compact EV is called Firefly after NIO’s new brand. The Firefly brand was unveiled during Nio Day in December 2024. Firefly is built on Nio’s new platform, which is specifically designed for Europe’s urban roads.
According to Electrive, the Firefly compact EV is positioned as a premium compact offering in Europe, despite a starting price of €23,500 in Norway and €29,900 in the Netherlands. On the Chinese market, the model starts at 119,800 yuan, about €14,400, but Nio is deliberately avoiding a “budget” label in Europe to maintain its upscale brand identity.
Firefly’s compact EV features a 41.2 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP range of 330 kilometers, or up to 470 kilometers in city conditions. It features fast charging support of up to 100 kW, enabling a 10–80% recharge in just 29 minutes.

After its launch in Norway and the Netherlands, Nio plans to introduce its Firefly brand to Austria and Hungary before the end of 2025. A second wave is expected to bring the Firefly EV to Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic in 2026.
Until now, Nio has sold vehicles in five European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. The Firefly rollout represents one of the brand’s most ambitious pushes yet into the European market, aiming to diversify its lineup and grow its presence in urban EV segments.
