NIO EL8 SUV Debuts in Europe With 316 Miles Of Range

NIO is bringing its electric vehicles (EVs) to European markets with the launch of the flagship EL8 SUV. The full-size, three-row EL8 packs premium amenities, powerful performance, and advanced technology as the company intensifies its push into Europe.

In terms of its specs, the NIO EL8 delivers potent dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) performance, with a combined 643 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. As for its acceleration, the NIO EL8 is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds.

Notably, NIO has stated that the range goes up to 317 miles on the 100 kWh Long Range battery pack. A more affordable 75 kWh Standard Range version is also available with an estimated 250-mile range rating. Moreover, the EL8 has an advanced air suspension with active damping and huge brakes with six-piston calipers while retaining a 0.25 drag coefficient for maximum range efficiency.

Capable of seating for up to six passengers, NIO’s EL8 delivers ultra-luxurious accommodations and family-friendly versatility. Its higher trims feature an Executive Console with integrated refrigerator between the second-row Ottoman reclining massage seats. As for its interior, it incorporates sustainable materials like plant-based woven suede, soybean foam and rattan accents.

Technical aspects of the NIO EL8 comes with over-the-air (OTA) updates, a massive 16.3-inch head-up display, AI digital assistant that can be summoned from any seat, and one of the industry’s most advanced sensor suites. NIO also claims the EL8’s array of 33 sensors and cameras provides exceptional obstacle and pedestrian detection up to nearly 2,300 feet away.

Furthermore, safety is also a key priority engineered into the EL8 from the ground up, with extensive aluminum construction, 72% wide front or rear crumple zones, and up to nine airbags including side curtains extending into the third row. As NIO is targeting family buyers across Europe, the starting price is around 82,900 euros ($88,800) for battery subscription or 94,900 euros ($101,600) to purchase the battery outright.

With the new EL8 leading the charge, NIO is showcasing its EV prowess and design innovation as it attempts to establish a foothold in the European market. For now, the NIO EL8 will be available in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands with deliveries scheduled to start in September 2024.
