Mazda is making a big move into Europe’s electric vehicle (EV) market with the Mazda6e, an electric sedan that brings Japanese design philosophy with Chinese EV technology. First unveiled as the EZ-6 at Auto China in Beijing last April, the renamed Mazda6e is set to arrive in European showrooms by summer 2025, with United Kingdom (UK) markets following in 2026.

Japanese Design Meets Chinese Tech

The Mazda6e symbolizes an intriguing collaboration between Mazda and their 20-year Chinese partner, Changan Automobile. Built on Changan’s EPA1 architecture, the EV model showcases what Mazda calls their “Authentic Modern” design theme, blending the company’s signature “Kodo Soul of Motion” aesthetic with modern EV elements.

This midsize sedan arrives with its dimensions, measuring 4.92 meters in length, 1.89 meters in width, and 1.48 meters in height. The elegant exterior features several distinctive elements, including frameless doors, retractable door handles, and an electronically adjustable rear spoiler. The front fascia sports an illuminated grille complemented by sharp LED headlight signatures, while 19-inch Y-spoke wheels add to its sophisticated profile.

Two Powertrain Choices

European customers will have two powertrain options to choose from. The standard Mazda6e 258 delivers 190 kW (258 horsepower) and comes with a 68.8 kWh battery, offering a range of 479 km (297 miles). This version reaches 80% capacity in just 22 minutes using 200 kW fast charging. The Long Range variant, dubbed Mazda6e 245, features a larger 80 kWh battery that extends the range to 552 km (342 miles), though it comes with a slightly lower output of 180 kW (245 horsepower) and longer charging times of 45 minutes.

Both versions maintain similar performance metrics, with 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in under eight seconds and a top speed of 175 km/h (around 108 mph) Notably, both models can tow up to 1,500 kg (around 3,306 lbs), making them practical for everyday use.

Smart Interior Features

For the interior, Mazda has created what they call a “smart cabin” that emphasizes both technology and comfort. The dashboard features a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and an impressive 50-inch augmented reality head-up display.

In addition, the vehicle supports voice and gesture controls for various functions, while a 14-speaker Sony sound system comes standard. Customers can choose between two interior trim levels: ‘Takumi’ and ‘Takumi Plus’, offering different leather and surface finish options.

Competitive Pricing and Market Position

The Mazda6e will enter the German market with a starting price of around €45,000, positioning it competitively in the premium electric sedan segment. This launch coincides with Mazda’s decision to phase out the older MX-30 electric model in both German and U.S. markets, signaling a clear shift in the company’s EV strategy.

Through this launch, Mazda aims to deliver what they call the ‘Joy of Driving’ while maintaining their human-centric values. The combination of sophisticated design, practical range, and advanced technology suggests that Mazda is serious about establishing a strong presence in Europe’s growing EV market.

While UK pricing details are yet to be announced, the Mazda6e appears set to offer European customers a compelling alternative in the electric sedan segment when it arrives in showrooms next year.
