Lucid Motors has announced plans to launch not one, but three new affordable electric vehicle (EV) models to take on Tesla as it seeks to make its EV offerings accessible to a wider range of buyers.

Lucid’s Senior Vice President of Design and Brand, Derek Jenkins, confirmed the news to CarBuzz, revealing that the company’s “mid-size program” will encompass a total of three EVs.

“They’re going to be younger vehicles, they’re going to be more athletic vehicles,” Jenkins stated, hinting at Lucid’s intention to cater to a younger, more dynamic demographic.

The first two models in this lineup are no surprise: a mid-size electric SUV to rival Tesla’s Model Y, and a mass-market sedan to compete with the Model 3. However, the third model remains undisclosed.

Jenkins suggested that a more rugged, off-road-capable EV could be in the works. “The off-road space is going to continue to morph and evolve,” he explained, adding that an EV that blends sleek design with robust features could appeal to a broader range of buyers.

Moreover, Lucid’s focus on efficiency, aerodynamics, and practicality will be at the forefront of these new models, as the company seeks to deliver performance and range at a more accessible price point. “It’s not going to be as quick as Air, but it’s going to be impressive, and it’s going to be at a value that many more people can access,” Jenkins stated.

As of now, Lucid has been relying on its Air models while finishing production of its Gravity SUV for the market soon. Recently, the company delivered 2,394 EVs for Q2 2024, conveying a 22% increase from Q1 and exceeding expectations of 1,940 units.
