Stellantis has officially confirmed that the Lancia brand’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) will bear the iconic ‘Gamma’ nameplate. Set to debut in 2026, the all-new Lancia Gamma will be built at the company’s Melfi plant in Italy.
The decision to revive the Gamma name, which was previously used for a Lancia model line from 1976 to 1984, underscores the brand’s goal to blending tradition with innovation as it charts a course toward an electrified future.
“The new Lancia Gamma represents a milestone in our journey towards the future,” stated Luca Napolitano, Lancia CEO. “It embodies our brand’s commitment to sustainability and high performance, while celebrating the unmistakable elegance that has defined Lancia for decades.”
The Gamma will be based on Stellantis’ STLA Medium multi-energy platform, which has been designed from the ground up to accommodate electric powertrains. This architecture has already proven its capabilities in models like the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008, as well as the Opel Grandland, offering ranges of up to 700 km on a single charge.
Though Lancia has not revealed specific performance figures for the Gamma, the STLA Medium platform supports front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations with power outputs ranging from 160 to 285 kW. This suggests the new Gamma will offer a compelling blend of efficiency and driving dynamics to match its timeless style.
The decision to produce the Gamma at Stellantis’ Melfi plant, a recognized center of excellence for the company, further reinforces Lancia’s ties to Italy’s automotive heritage. The plant has long been a cornerstone of national and international automotive production, blending traditional craftsmanship with the latest manufacturing technologies.
“By producing it at the historic Melfi plant, we are strengthening our connection to Italy’s rich automotive heritage and advancing our vision for an electrified future,” Napolitano added.
The Lancia Gamma’s debut will mark a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing revival strategy, which includes a return to the European market with a network of over 70 dealerships across six countries.
As Lancia looks to cement its position as a premium electric mobility provider, the new Gamma will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the company’s electric future.
