Amidst the glitz and glamor of the event, the spotlight shone brightest on the Kia EV9, which clinched the prestigious title of 2024 World Car of the Year.

This triumph commemorates Kia’s fourth victory in the esteemed World Car Awards’ two-decade history, underscoring the brand’s relentless pursuit of technological innovation and design excellence. Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia, conveyed immense pride in the accolade, stating, “We are hugely honored that the 2024 EV9 has been named the World Car of the Year. This triumph is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design excellence.”

A panel of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries meticulously assessed each eligible vehicle, casting their votes in secret ballots based on their ongoing professional assessments. The journey to victory began with the Kia EV9 arising from a pool of thirty-eight contenders worldwide, ultimately standing tall among the top three finalists alongside the BYD Seal and the Volvo EX30.

The eligibility requirements for the World Car of the Year category establish that vehicles must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units per year, priced below the luxury-car threshold in primary markets, and available in at least two major markets across two continents within a specified timeframe.

The Kia EV9’s triumph was not limited to the overall category; it also secured the title of 2024 World Electric Vehicle, with runner-ups being the BMW i5 and Volvo EX30. Kia’s EV9, a seven-seat electric SUV, captivated the jury with its modern refinement, extensive range of nearly 350 miles, 215 hp, and 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. This further solidifies its position as a leader in sustainable electromobility solutions.

In a statement reflecting on the win, Sean Yoon, President and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America, emphasized the EV9’s value in Kia’s vision and commitment to quality, stating, “EV9 is a clear representation of Kia’s vision and further evidence of our dedication to quality. This award cements Kia’s standing as the frontrunner in sustainable mobility solutions that go beyond conventional automobiles.”
