The Partnership Will Add 1,000 New Charging Points To Be Installed Across 300 Locations In Spain

Spain’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure will see an increase with Iberdrola recently announced plans to install 1,000 new charging points at around 300 Eroski locations across 11 autonomous communities in the country.

This project, set to be completed over the next three years, marks a major step forward in the country’s transition to electric mobility. The first phase of the project will prioritize the installation of charging points at Eroski gas stations. Moreover, the charging stations will be strategically placed at Eroski locations in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Navarra, and the Basque Country.
The new charging infrastructure will provide a range of power levels, allowing users to charge their EVs while shopping. Depending on the charger type, EV owners can expect to add 100 km (62 miles) of range in as little as 6 minutes or up to 45 minutes.
All charging points will be powered by 100% renewable energy with Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certification, potentially saving 30,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to the environmental impact of 1.5 million trees according to Iberdrola. The new charging points will also be integrated into the Iberdrola Public Charging App, allowing its users to locate, check availability, book, and pay for charging sessions through their smart devices.
David Martínez, Director of Iberdrola Clientes España, expressed the importance of this partnership stating, “The Eroski group is a clear ally in advancing the implementation of charging points in places where users go on a daily basis so that they can charge while shopping or while working.”

This project is part of Iberdrola’s broader Sustainable Mobility Plan, launched in 2016, which aims to install 100,000 charging stations in homes, businesses, and along public roads by 2025. The company currently operates over 50,000 charging points, with 6,500 of these being publicly accessible.
This partnership between Iberdrola and Eroski demonstrates the growing emphasis on partnerships between energy providers and retailers to expand EV charging infrastructure. As EV adoption sees a surge in Spain, this initiative play a crucial role in supporting the transition to electric mobility and achieving climate goals.
