Hyundai Motor America has reached another milestone in its electric vehicle segment as its popular IONIQ 5 model has positioned the company to set yet another sales record in the United States (U.S.).

Despite discussions of a slowdown in the EV market, Hyundai proved otherwise with the IONIQ 5 model steadily climbing on the sales chart as the sixth best-selling EV in the nation last year. Since its debut in 2022, the IONIQ 5 has reported record-breaking sales figures with 4,449 units sold in May, marking the model’s best month ever since its launch according to Hyundai.

As a result, this achievement surpasses the previous milestones, including a new Q1 sales record earlier this year and a series of monthly sales records in the preceding months, where in the first five months of 2024, nearly 15,000 IONIQ 5 models were delivered to U.S. buyers. This went up 43% from 10,505 units sold by this time last year.

With Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 already appealing to U.S. buyers, it will get even more appealing as the company is set to produce the model in its Georgia Metaplant as its first EV. The aim of this action is to label the IONIQ 5 to be eligible for the federal EV tax credit of $7,500, which further enhances the IONIQ 5 in the rankings of best-selling EVs in the U.S. market.

As Hyundai is capitalizing on the momentum that it is receiving with high sales and localizing production plans in the U.S., the continued success will be reflected by the company’s ambitious growth targets in the EV market.
