With A 330-Mile Range, Rapid Charging, And Flexible Seating Options, The IONIQ 9 Aims To Be A Game-Changer In The Electric SUV Market

Hyundai has officially launched its first flagship electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, in South Korea’s electric vehicle (EV) market. The model, which offers class-leading interior space and advanced technology features, is set to arrive in the United States (U.S.) market in Spring 2025.

Built on Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 9 is powered by a substantial 110.3 kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 532 km (330 miles) on a single charge in Korean testing conditions. The SUV features a sophisticated 400/800V dual charging system, enabling rapid charging capabilities that can boost the battery from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes when using a 350 kW charger.

The IONIQ 9 stands as Hyundai’s largest electric SUV to date, slightly surpassing its corporate cousin, the Kia EV9, in dimensions. At 5,060 mm (199.2 inches) in length, 1,980 mm (78 inches) in width, and 1,790 mm (70.5 inches) in height, the IONIQ 9 provides generous interior space with flexible seating configurations for six or seven passengers.

The interior of the IONIQ 9 showcases a panoramic curved infotainment setup that combines dual 12.3-inch displays for driver information and navigation. Buyers can choose from various seating arrangements, including premium relaxation seats, swivel seats, or dynamic body care seats in the six-seat configuration, while the seven-seater offers a practical 6:4 folding seat arrangement.

In its home market of South Korea, Hyundai has positioned the IONIQ 9 competitively, with prices starting at 67.15 million won (around $46,000) for the seven-seat “Exclusive” trim. The premium “Calligraphy” six-seater variant tops the range at 79.41 million won ($54,500).
Looking ahead to its U.S. launch, the IONIQ 9 will be produced at Hyundai’s new EV plant in Georgia, alongside the updated 2025 IONIQ 5. The U.S. version will come equipped with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. While official U.S. pricing will be announced closer to launch, industry expectations place the starting price around $60,000, positioning it slightly above the Kia EV9’s around $55,000 entry point.
To support the launch, Hyundai is offering comprehensive customer experiences in South Korea, including test drives and purchase consultations at the Walkerhill Hotels & Resorts’ “Théâtre des Lumières” in eastern Seoul.
