Hyundai has unveiled the highly anticipated 2025 IONIQ 5, marking a significant milestone as the first Hyundai electric vehicle (EV) to be manufactured in the United States (U.S.).
According to Hyundai, the 2025 IONIQ 5 will be the inaugural model produced at Hyundai’s new Metaplant America plant in Georgia. This domestic production is projected to make the IONIQ 5 eligible for a $3,750 U.S. tax credit at the start of sales, with Hyundai anticipating additional federal tax incentives in the future.
Hyundai has increased the battery capacity across the IONIQ 5 range. Standard Range models now feature a 63.0 kWh battery (up from 58.0 kWh), while Long Range versions receive an 84.0 kWh battery (increased from 77.4 kWh).
These upgrades translate to improved driving ranges, with rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Long Range models expected to exceed 310 miles (up from 303 miles), all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants projected to achieve over 280 miles (an increase from 260 miles), and the SE Standard Range model anticipated to reach more than 240 miles (previously 220 miles).
Moreover, the 2025 IONIQ 5 becomes the first Hyundai to adopt the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. This change grants access to over 17,000 Tesla Superchargers, effectively doubling the available DC fast-charging network for IONIQ 5 owners.
Notably, the 2025 IONIQ 5 comes with a new XRT trim that is designed for off-road enthusiasts, featuring a 23mm suspension lift, unique 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and exclusive front and rear fascias with a digital camouflage pattern.
The entire 2025 IONIQ 5 lineup receives subtle but impactful updates. These include restyled front and rear bumpers for a bolder stance, a new rear spoiler, and more aerodynamic wheels. Fresh matte color options are now available: Atlas White, Ecotronic Gray, and Celadon Gray.
Furthermore, it also arrives with improved approach (19.8 degrees) and departure (30.0 degrees) angles, front tow hooks with a 5,834-pound towing capacity, and distinct interior touches including H-Tex seating with XRT patterns and badging.
For the interior, the IONIQ 5 features a redesigned interior with improved HVAC controls and a new center console. The infotainment system has been upgraded to a 12.3-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features have also been enhanced including the addition of Forward Attention Warning and improved parking assistance.
José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, expressed enthusiasm for the update stating, “IONIQ 5 has been a sales success for us since day one. We’re continuing to give customers more of what they want by expanding the IONIQ 5 lineup with a dedicated off-road-capable XRT model, NACS port, design upgrades, and a long list of features developed with customers in mind.”
While official pricing has not been announced, domestic production is expected to make the IONIQ 5 more accessible to American buyers through tax incentives. The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5, including the new XRT trim, is set to arrive at dealerships this fall.
