Chinese automaker HONGQI is set to make a grand entrance into the European market through the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will mark the company’s debut as an official partner and serve as the launchpad for global pre-sales of its advanced electric vehicle (EV) models, the EH7 and EHS7.

At the festival, HONGQI plans to showcase five models in a static display, with three new EVs: the EH7, EHS7, and EHS9. These EV models will participate in the festival’s iconic hill climb runs, demonstrating their performance capabilities alongside other automaker’s EVs.

HONGQI EH7 & EHS7 Specs

Particularly, HONGQI’s EH7 and EHS7 models offer an estimated range of up to 660 km (410 miles) on a single charge. For the EH7, the company previously stated that it comes with an estimated maximum range of up to 700 km (434 miles) on a single charge. As for its charging capabilities, it can fully charge in just 20 minutes.

Notably, these EVs also feature advanced low-temperature battery technology, maintaining near-full capacity at -10°C and 90% usable capacity at -20°C, making them well-suited for colder European climates.

Furthermore, HONGQI’s EV models arrive with a powerful 22,500 RPM electric motor, delivering sports car-like acceleration. They also contain exceptional features including rear-wheel steering, variable damping suspension, and air suspension systems for enhanced driving dynamics. Also, both the EH7 and EHS7 have been developed to meet ENCAP safety standards.

As for the interior, the EHS7 stands out with its focus on comfort and luxury by offering over 1 meter of legroom and headroom. It also features a best-in-class 528mm seat cushion made from slow-rebound memory foam for superior comfort. Smart features include remote vehicle control through a smartphone, an AR HUD for real-time information display, and a hands-free trunk opening system. There is also a 5-layer stereo sound system with 21 speakers.

HONGQI’s European Launch

HONGQI’s European launch comes at a time when Chinese automakers are increasingly looking to expand into the European market. The company plans to release these models in several European countries including Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden, where it has established dealer relationships.

However, this European expansion comes amid recent challenges as the European Commission has implemented new tariffs ranging from 17.4% to 37.6% on Chinese EVs. Despite these tariffs, HONGQI and other Chinese automakers are navigating and adjusting their European expansion plans.

While specific pricing details for the European market have not been released, potential buyers can view HONGQI’s EVs through their debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed running from July 11 to July 14. As the company launches its pre-sales, all eyes will be on how these new Chinese EVs fare in the European market.
