General Motors has surpassed 1 billion hands-free miles driven with its Super Cruise system, marking a major milestone in the rollout of its semi-autonomous technology.

The achievement reflects growing adoption across GM’s lineup and provides a massive dataset to refine future autonomous driving features.

Super Cruise passes 1 billion miles as usage expands across lineup

General Motors confirmed that customers have logged over 1 billion miles using its Super Cruise system across approximately 750,000 equipped vehicles in North America, according to GM Authority.

Super Cruise is now available in 23 GM nameplates, including more accessible models such as the Chevrolet Bolt EV. Recent data shows strong engagement, with drivers using the system for 7.1 million hours across 28.7 million trips in the past year. On average, each trip included about 24 minutes of hands-free driving.

Adoption remains consistent, with more than half of users activating the system weekly and about 85% using it at least once per month. Subscription totals are expected to exceed 850,000 this year, with renewal rates between 30% and 40%.

Data-driven development supports next-gen autonomous features

GM says the real-world driving data collected from Super Cruise is critical to improving system performance and reliability. The system has been tested across a wide range of conditions, including varying weather and traffic environments, helping refine its capabilities over time.

The automaker is now working toward more advanced autonomy, including an “eyes-off” driving feature planned for the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028. In parallel, GM is conducting supervised testing of next-generation automated driving systems using more than 200 vehicles on public roads in California and Michigan.

Beyond technology, Super Cruise and related connected services like OnStar are becoming increasingly important to GM’s business model, contributing to recurring revenue streams as subscriptions grow.

The milestone highlights how real-world usage is accelerating the development of software-defined vehicles, as automakers move closer to higher levels of automation.
