General Motors (GM) has planned that its upcoming Cadillac OPTIQ electric vehicle (EV) will be produced at the company’s advanced assembly plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico according to a report from Cluster Industrial. This makes Mexico the second global production location for the OPTIQ model after China.

GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant, which received a $1 billion investment from the company in 2021 to prepare for EV production according to GM Mexico’s Communications Department to the local press, is also the production hub for the Chevrolet Equinox EV. At the plant, it will serve as a strategic export base for the OPTIQ, supplying the EV model to markets across North America, the Middle East, Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia.

In terms of the Cadillac OPTIQ, it was recently revealed as a competitively priced luxury SUV in the entry-level sector in the EV market. Based on GM’s Ultium platform, the OPTIQ’s starting price is estimated at $54,000 including destination charges. With an estimated 300 miles of range, 300 horsepower, and 354 lb-ft of instant torque, the OPTIQ is set to stand out against its rivals in the EV market.

Furthermore, the Cadillac OPTIQ’s production in Mexico reinforces GM’s aim to expand its EV production footprint in North America. Notably, GM has relentlessly pursued partnerships and investments to secure battery supply and establish a robust EV supply chain across the region.

With the addition of the Cadillac OPTIQ to GM’s Mexican production lineup, the company will be set to utilize its Ramos Arizpe plant further in its EV plans. Production of the Cadillac OPTIQ is set to start in Q4 2024.
