General Motors is set to restart Chevy Blazer EV production on December 2 after a brief pause at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico, ending a slowdown that began during the week of November 24. The crossover remains one of GM’s higher-volume electric models, with more than 4,200 units already in inventory and strong year-to-date sales despite shifting demand following the loss of the federal EV tax credit.

Production restarts as Blazer EV inventory builds

GM confirmed that the Blazer EV line was temporarily halted late in November, though the exact start of the pause remains unclear. With production resuming immediately, the automaker enters December with approximately 4,275 units either on dealer lots or en route. That stock includes 154 units from the 2024 model year, 1,308 from 2025, and 2,813 from 2026, according to GM Authority.

Through the first three quarters of 2025, GM moved 20,825 Blazer EVs, including 8,089 units sold in Q3 as buyers accelerated purchases ahead of the September 30 expiration of federal EV incentives. Based on that pace, current inventory represents about 2.5 months of supply. GM, however, expects demand to cool in the near term without the tax credit, a trend reflected across multiple electric segments.

GM adjusts broader EV portfolio amid shifting demand

The Blazer EV restart comes as GM recalibrates its wider electric lineup. Production of the Chevy BrightDrop delivery van has officially ended, and lines for the Cadillac Escalade IQ/IQL, GMC Hummer EV, and GMC Sierra EV remain paused until January. GM Factory Zero will transition to a single-shift schedule next year to match production with projected demand.

Cadillac’s Lyriq and Vistiq lines are similarly paused through December. Meanwhile, the next-generation 2027 Chevy Bolt continues on a single shift at GM Fairfax in Kansas, one of the few EV programs currently running at steady cadence.

GM’s long-term strategy also includes reassigning Orion Assembly, which is no longer expected to produce EVs. Instead, starting in 2027, the facility will build full-size internal-combustion trucks including the Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Cadillac Escalade, an indicator of where GM sees volume stability over the next decade.
